In 1972 I was awarded a full scholarship to attend the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. After one semester, at the advice and encouragement of my tutors I left the Museum School and began working as a freelance illustrator. In the following years I traveled extensively, throughout the United States, Europe and Central America. While traveling I kept "notebooks" filled with icons and ideas from my journeys. I began to produce small Xeroxed books to send to friends and clients. Later my notebooks became my illustration portfolios, I continue to create notebooks and most of my imagery grows out of these. In 1982 I settled in New York City to pursue visual art full time. A year later my first children book was published. I've since published over 30 children s books and created 2 animations. I continue to work as a freelance illustrator and fine artist. In 1992 The United States Library of Congress honored me with a solo exhibition of my work. I ve lectured at Rhode Island School of Design, Parsons School of Design, School of Visual Art graduate Illustration Program in New York and at Art Center College of Art in Pasadena California. From 1999-2002 I was Adjunct professor of design at UNITEC, school of design, Auckland New Zealand. from 2007-2008 i was visiting adjunct professor at the Danish Design School I frequently speak at design conferences in the U.S.A. and Europe. I am married to Wu Wing Yee together we occasionally work as babblelab { HYPERLINK "http://www.babblelab.com" www.babblelab.com } we divide our time between the west and Yunnan, China where we have a home and studio.
